Overview

East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) is a not-for-profit electric utility headquartered in Winchester, Kentucky. Established in 1941 by a consortium of rural cooperatives, EKPC is dedicated to generating and transmitting wholesale electricity to its member cooperatives, which collectively serve more than a million customers throughout Central and Eastern Kentucky.

The cooperative operates a diverse energy portfolio spanning coal-fired plants, hydroelectric facilities, and various renewable sources. EKPC is recognized for its commitment to reliable and sustainable energy—as well as environmental stewardship—providing greater green power than any other utility in Kentucky. It manages over 2,800 miles of transmission lines and delivers nearly 3,000 megawatts of capacity, prioritizing energy efficiency and continual innovation in cleaner power solutions.
