Overview

Established in 1987, this nonprofit organization is dedicated to ending extreme poverty in rural Africa through entrepreneurship and innovation. With a mission to lift 20 million people out of poverty by 2030, it empowers vulnerable women, refugees, and youth by providing skills, business training, cash grants, and mentorship to launch climate-smart businesses and savings groups.

The organization’s community-based program, operating mainly in rural East Africa, combines financial training, cash grants, and access to business savings groups. It has helped participants start sustainable microenterprises in sectors such as retail and agriculture, launching over 48,000 businesses and training nearly 374,000 entrepreneurs. Collaboration with governments and other nonprofits strengthens its efforts to promote financial inclusion and resilience among people living on less than $1.90 per day.
