In November 1970, the organization opened in rural Buckingham County, marking the establishment of the first community health center in Virginia. The initial Central Virginia Community Health Center (CVCHC) was designed to meet the healthcare needs of residents in Buckingham, Cumberland, and Fluvanna counties. Early operations began in three trailers across these counties and were later consolidated in the Gold Hill community of Buckingham County.
Today, it is Virginia's largest community health center in both the number of sites and patients served. The growth of locations has continually responded to specific community needs, addressing both urban and rural healthcare challenges.
