SUNY Upstate Medical University is an academic medical center located in Central New York, established in 1834. It is the 15th oldest medical school in the United States and the only one in the Central New York region. With approximately 9,460 employees, it is the largest employer in the area.
The university comprises four colleges: the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Health Professions, and College of Graduate Studies. It offers a range of educational programs for physicians, nurses, research scientists, and healthcare professionals, including graduate medical education and continuing education. SUNY Upstate also operates a clinical network featuring the region's only Children's Hospital and Upstate University Hospital, which includes multiple campuses.

The institution has a rich history of academic distinction, and was one of the first to implement a graded medical instruction program and to adopt a curriculum based on the German model of medical education.
