The Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) is a prominent Belgian francophone university located in Brussels, founded on November 20, 1834. Established by Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen, ULB was created to ensure academic freedom and independence from state and church influence. Originally named Université libre de Belgique, it was renamed in 1842, and its founding principle of free examination remains central to its mission.

Since its inception, ULB has expanded to include seven faculties and various schools and institutes, fostering a diverse student body.
