Overview

The United States Courts serves as the official administrative body for the federal judiciary, representing one of the three primary branches of the U.S. government. Responsible for administering justice in cases pertaining to federal laws and the Constitution, the federal judiciary operates independently from state courts. Its structure encompasses a three-tiered system that includes 94 U.S. District Courts, 13 U.S. Courts of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Federal judges serve life terms and receive support from several administrative entities, including the Judicial Conference of the United States, which addresses policy and legislative recommendations, and the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, which manages budgeting and staffing.
