Larimer County

Overview

Located in north central Colorado, Larimer County is a county government established in 1861. It is the sixth largest county by population, serving approximately 370,771 residents across 2,640 square miles. The county seat, Fort Collins, is also its most populous city, and the region encompasses the Fort Collins–Loveland metropolitan area as well as several municipalities, including Timnath, Wellington, Berthoud, Johnstown, and Windsor.

Governed by ten elected officials and a three-member Board of County Commissioners, the county oversees policy-making, budget approval, and vital public services. Its responsibilities include law enforcement, social services, health services, public works, land use management, and elections. Larimer County's roots are associated with agriculture and irrigation, shaped by early settlements that contributed to its growth and development.
