Overview

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is a state-owned enterprise established on May 1, 1969. As the largest power producer in Thailand, EGAT was formed by merging several electricity authorities to address the nation’s growing power demand. The organization operates power plants at 45 sites across the country, with a total installed capacity of approximately 15,548 MW.

EGAT is responsible for electric power generation, transmission, and bulk electricity sales nationwide. It manages a diverse portfolio of power plants fueled by thermal, hydroelectric, and renewable energy sources. The company supplies electricity to major distributors, including the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and the Provincial Electricity Authority, serving a wide range of users throughout Thailand. EGAT also engages in related fields such as lignite production to further support the country’s energy infrastructure.
