Overview

Edward Waters University (EWU) is a private, Christian, Historically Black College and University (HBCU) located in Jacksonville, Florida. Founded in 1866 and the oldest private HBCU in the state, the university was originally established as Brown's Theological Institute by the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church and later renamed in honor of AME Bishop Edward Waters in 1892. EWU has a rich history, including the rebuilding of its campus after the 1901 Great Fire.

The university offers a variety of undergraduate programs in fields such as business, communications, and computer science, emphasizing hands-on learning and industry experience. Its accredited Bachelor of Business Administration program focuses on ethics and leadership; the communications program provides practical experience through campus media, while computer science integrates business perspectives to address real-world challenges.
